By showing her an episode of Bugs Bunny. Who knew that the bunny who made famous: "what's up, doc?" would be helping my daughter think carrots were pretty awesome? It's a good thing when TV shows incorporate healthy foods. So thank you, Warner Brothers! Debhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15301608156191730119noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3224330148759970618.post-59953303259424597842014-09-09T16:58:00.001-04:002014-09-09T16:58:55.430-04:00Utensils trick!New trick for eating! It's like a big accomplishment isn't it? Haha. Well my second child was refusing to eat. What's new? It was homemade chicken nuggets. The oldest was loving it! So my second was playing with the toy kitchen before and I grabbed some of the utensils and let her pick and eat with them! Oh yeah! One point for mom! She loved that she got to "play" and eat.
Also another thing that might work. My husband actually read about this one. Does not work for all children! It works wonderfully for my oldest, but not my second. Ask your kid if he wants to eat with the yellow fork or the blue fork. They'll pick and feel independent that they got to pick. (So he'll think, "now what do I do with the fork? Eat, I guess." Another win for you!
Debhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15301608156191730119noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3224330148759970618.post-40027404906609746692014-09-06T18:38:00.001-04:002014-09-06T18:38:36.277-04:00Gluten-freeFor those of you trying a gluten-free diet, don't forget that that means having nothing with gluten. You can't go a week without having gluten and then on Monday you have gluten, but it was only one thing and then go back to gluten-free. It will throw the immune system completely off and all of that effort, going gluten-free, was just a waste of time.
There are great alternatives to gluten, but always read labels. There are some brands that make gluten-free products but it's still crap. There is a brand of pasta that I absolutely love. It's called Pasta Joy, here's their website: http://tinkyada.com

I like this brand because when you cook the pasta it cooks like gluten pasta. It doesn't overcook, meaning it doesn't become mushy like some other gluten-free pastas, and it's made with really simple ingredients. So it's worth a try, plus it's made from rice so it's basically allergy-free unless you're allergic to rice.

I'd like to just input my opinion. The thing with gluten is that it's been heavily modified over the years. Especially wheat or anything that says "whole-wheat." I don't know about you, but I'm against it. I used to think it was healthy, but then I read about it several times and over the years it has been changed; its DNA has been altered, and therefore all of those changes harm our bodies. Sometimes people think, "oh well it wasn't bad for me when I was a kid," but then again it wasn't as different when we were younger.
Debhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15301608156191730119noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3224330148759970618.post-34229932187701389562014-06-22T07:36:00.001-04:002014-06-22T07:36:45.054-04:00Non-GMO brandsHere's a link to 400 companies who are commited to serving you non-GMO foods.
http://www.naturalcuresnotmedicine.com/2013/07/over-400-companies-who-arent-using-gmos.html
Debhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15301608156191730119noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3224330148759970618.post-79609876386284499852014-03-08T00:56:00.001-05:002014-03-08T00:56:41.417-05:00Pasta sauceUnfortunately for me, my kids don't like sauce in their pasta. But if your kids do then this post will be of use to you! I love this tomato sauce for myself and as a sneaky way to get my husband to eat veggies too! The Sneaky Chef tomato sauce is made with a massive amount of veggies. It's made by a mom who was also trying to find creative ways to get her kids to eat their veggies. I've seen this product only a few times at Whole Foods, I'm not sure why it's not on the shelves all the time. I've seen it in two flavors; smooth red and cheesy red. I love that it's simple ingredients and it's not filled with all these unproannouncable chemicals. Follow me @thepickytoddler
I've recently tweeted about my favorite brand of pre-made foods. Of course it's always best to make your own food at home, but of there is no time here's who I turn to: Applegate's gluten-free chicken nuggets, and organic peas or whatever other veggie kids will tolerate. I have to say the Little Duck Organics is awesome! They make organic, all-natural, recognizable ingredients! My little one likes their Quinoa baby cereal! Because I try to avoid dairy I like to use Daiya cheese for my oldest's Mac & Cheese. I love them because they don't contain soy, casein and carrageenan.
Debhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15301608156191730119noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3224330148759970618.post-8103900709302102462013-05-14T17:33:00.000-04:002013-05-14T17:33:55.530-04:00This post has a little bit of everythingHello dear Friends!
Once again I was M.I.A. I barely have time, as you know (your a parent yourself). And the time I do have to go online, is not the time to sit, think, and type. But I have been keeping myself informed and educated! Its really amazing the things that we have yet to learn.
So today I want to talk a little bit about my recent discoveries: strange ingredients. What do you mean, Deb? Well have you ever looked at the ingredients on packaged food? At first I just thought, "Ok, so what? They need to add this stuff to make this stuff." Now looking at that I don't really know how I wasn't alarmed at the fact that all I was consuming or giving my kid was chemicals! No wonder people are getting sick! Really think about. Our bodies are still the same bodies people had from years and years ago. Yet our food is not the same from years ago. All the chemical stuff is forcing our livers to work overtime! People don't need to take vitamins, I believe, if they are feeding themselves properly. Nor do I believe people need to see doctors because food, yes WHOLE FOOD, can cure. But of course don't take my advice because I'm no one to lead your life. I just believe this for myself. For example, cancer is on the rise and seems like something that you're bound to get in the future. No! Cancer is formed because these chemicals, harmful man-made things, and stress are forcing our organs to fight. Eventually these poisons win because our bodies were not meant to take so much crap! Sugars feed this cancer, and whole foods such as organic veggies kill it.
We live in a society/culture where we are taught or brought up to be lazy. Yep, I said it! "Oh, I have a headache." Take a Tylenol. "Oh, I have diarrhea." Take Pepto. Listen to your body. Its not just feeling terrible to screw you over. Its screaming for your help. "Oh, I'm to tried to cook." Microwave some fake food. "Oh, I've worked all day. I don't have time to play with my kid(s)." Sit them in front of the TV. When in fact, we seem to always have time to walk our dogs at 6am, but wouldn't take our kids to the park for an hour. Then we wonder why kids are so violent or so passive. That's what we teach them; how to hate (because some parents don't care to show love). Its not that we hate them, but we aren't showing love either. I'm not saying let your kid do what he wants. But disciple with love (you may be firm when needed) and give them some of your time, because sometimes that's what we need as adults too; someone to give us time to just care or listen to us (hence why so many pay a great deal for a therapist).
Back to food. My toddler hates soup. The good thing is that last week when my husband made chicken soup she ate it! How did I do it? You guessed it. I just took out the broth. Even though that's the most nutritious part. So she ate the carrots, pasta, and chicken. Later she had some dessert: almond milk cookies and cream ice cream. Make sure it doesn't have carrageenan; its carcinogenic.
Here's something important I've learned. Sodium benzoate is of course bad, especially worse when mixed with ascorbic acid (synthetic vitamin C) and/or vitamin D. So read labels! I really hate that most kids juice boxes contain synthetic vitamin C. I found one that is organic and has no blah blah acids. It's called R.W. Knudsen Sensible Sippers http://www.rwknudsenfamily.com/products/sensible-sippers

It does contain "natural flavors" so you're going to have to do a little research or call them up and ask what "natural flavors" means. Sometimes it could be an issue if you're kid has a gluten intolerance.

Debhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15301608156191730119noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3224330148759970618.post-24928804348292658322013-02-21T14:45:00.001-05:002014-06-22T07:47:54.070-04:00Eating tipHey guys!
I had written a post on what worked for me and my child in regards to her feeding. I do believe though that many kids just aren't hungry or get full fast. Please don't let that discourage you. Maybe yesterday he ate a lot and it makes up for the little he's eating today. Nonetheless, if you feel like you need to keep feeding your kid give him or her healthy options. Now what do I mean by healthy options? Do I mean that dumb food pyramid we memorized in grade school? Absolutely not! See, what people don't realize is that somethings that were taught to us, were simply incorrect. Seriously? You think that a main part of anyone's diet should be "grains"? Ummm no. We all know that fruits and veggies are the most nutritious foods for us (preferably organic). I am not saying go vegan or vegetarian. I'm saying make fruits, veggies, seeds, nuts, and some organic oils should be a bigger part of your life than breads and meats. I didn't even mention sugars because that's just a whole other topic. There are many out there that are poisonous for our bodies (us and the kids).

I love the idea of adding more fruits and veggies to your lifestyle through pureeing. "But my kid thinks that's baby food!" Woe there buddy, hold your horses (lol haven't said that in a while). I mean put the puree in your cooking and baking! I've made muffins with sweet potato purée or butternut squash purée and it was good. Adding puréed veggies to pasta sauces, fruit or veggies smoothies, are great ideas too! Fruit as a snack throughout the day is refreshing and healthy. Sometimes my kid prefers to eat a big bowl of fruit instead of what I made for lunch and that's okay. Actually it's even better because if she's full on fruit then she's gotten more vitamins and nutrients then eating a sandwich or pasta.Debhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15301608156191730119noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3224330148759970618.post-68299035682032326582013-01-21T16:15:00.001-05:002013-01-21T16:15:39.309-05:00Healthier lifestyleMy last post about eating is not intended to tell you what to do with your child. The point is to tell you that you know what works best for your child so follow your instincts. Some advice should be taken for grandma if you trust that what she says is right. What I mean by this is that my mom had suggested that if my daughter didn't want to eat then just let her be. When she's hungry she'll eat. Now of course I thought that my daughter was too skinny and she can't decide what she wants because mom and dad are the parents. Well my daughter after Thanksgiving began having some stomach issues (which to this day we aren't sure what it was/is) Because of the suffering she went through I had compassion for her and didn't force her to eat and totally changed her diet. I made sure that at least for one meal she would have veggies. If she wanted the fruit that came in a pouch, I would just cut some fresh fruit. And instead of snacking on bread, I gave her healthier options such as: organic raisins and organic cashews or an organic soy yogurt mixed with raw honey. If she wanted Mac n' Cheese, I'd added chopped up carrots or chopped up kale. At first she refused to eat it, so I would just hide in under the pasta or behind it when it was on the fork and fed it to her while she played or watched a cartoon. Then she got used to the mixed veggies now she doesn't mind (most of the time). If she won't eat it then, it'll stay until she's hungry. Eventually she'll get hungry enough to eat it.
Yes, I am a firm believer that organic is the best and should really be the only way to go, unless you really don't have another option. I do believe that many diseases out there are caused because of what we put in our bodies. Our bodies soak up the nutrients and chemicals in our foods. I also don't believe that its necessary to have so many chemicals in vaccines, but that's a different story for a different blog.
Now with my daughter's stomach problems, I started to do a lot of research and began to believe that maybe she had celiac disease or a gluten sensitivity. I wanted to put her on a gluten-free and casein-free diet. I did, but now the G.I. doctor suggested to do some blood work to see if she really has that problem. So presently she's on a "regular" diet because the blood work needs to have gluten in the blood to see the reactions.
There is so many natural/homeopathic remedies that truly work, but we aren't educated because the pharmas want to make money and make you and your kids costumers for life. That's why if you hear, for example, a commercial for an anti-depressant the side effects are suicidal thoughts. Really? Who in their right mind would want to take that pill then? If the medicine that is suppose to cure or help you with an issue, is actually causing another issue that will lead you back to the same problem why would you take it? No one tells these people that magnesium and vitamin D fight depression. Well they do and if you have depression you should eat whole foods rich in these nutrients. With this flu "epidemic" pharmas must've been so happy. So many people buying over-the-counter medicine that truly doesn't cure anything and people getting the flu vaccine. I got the flu vaccine when my second child was born because I didn't do my "homework" and I was scared in getting my baby sick. Well it just goes to show that people were still getting the flu and elders were dying regards of the vaccine. So how effective is this injection? I'll let you answer that one. I wanted to say though that I cured my cold and my oldest daughter's cold naturally. In the morning, with our toast, I made a honey jam. Mix raw honey and cinnamon and spread it on toast. Delicious! For me, instead of coffee I boiled some water squeezed half a lemon added some ginger and a tiny dash of cayenne pepper and drank it! Boom two days I was cured!

Personal Potty Training Tips

Those two words can bring on all kinds of emotions. Fear, excitement, worry, concern, disgust, wonder, hope, hopelessness, just to name a few.

I wasn't sure how I was going to accomplish this task. Seriously, being a Stay-At-Home Mom is one of the craziest jobs ever! I mean, you can't go to college for it and even if you have an older child, you can't expect the second or third or whatever to be the same. It is true that every child is different! This also goes for potty training.
Every child has their own clock. I've read, in almost every article or mom posts, that when your kid is ready, you'll know. I thought, but how? How will I know? What if it takes forever? On top of that, I had this need and desire for my daughter to learn before her baby sister arrives. Because seriously, who wants two kids in diapers?
I kept telling her that poopy and pee pee go in the potty. I would also sit her on the potty every half hour hoping she would go. Some kids actually go and don't mind if you put them on, but my kid refused. She would cry and scream no. She had her diaper on and would say poopy when she was peeing. So she knew when she was "going." She must've had a fear of actually letting it go into a hole other than unto her diaper. I really didn't have any hope that she would pass this major milestone before my due date.
I left her in underwear and a shirt while we were home. As predicted she would just pee herself. I thought maybe she thinks that the underwear is like a really light diaper. I just took the underwear off and let her be. Then I grabbed a piece of computer paper and taped it on the wall behind her potty. I showed her Mickey Mouse stickers and said if you go potty you get a sticker. Slowly she began to get it. Once her 2nd birthday rolled around, she just decided herself that she would pee in the potty! She did it! On her own, without forcing her. Now she was ready for undies :)
Wait that's not all. What about poopy? Yeah, that came on its own time too. My daughter would hold it in and sometimes even ask for a diaper/pull-up so she could poop in peace. Eventually she ended up pooping in her potty. She would get so excited about getting a sticker. She even wanted one for no reason. I would say that the stickers were only if she went potty. When she did her business, she would run and say, "Sticky, sticky" of course meaning sticker. When we left the house I would put a pull-up on and tell her that she had to go on the potty. But I guess the pull-up still left like a diaper, so it didn't work for us.
I went to Babies R Us in search for a portable potty. I found the Dora Traveling Potty Seat. It's awesome because it folds and goes in your bag. The only down side is that if you're not near a toilet then you can't use it. It only goes over a toilet seat. One day I left her in underwear and told her that she didn't have a diaper on so she needed to tell me when she needed to use the potty. That one day worked, but the following day we went to the park and she peed her pants. She said, "Pee pee on floor." I told her that now we had to go home to change her pants. I was hoping that leaving the park, because she peed herself, would let her know that she needed to say that she had to go potty. Also, walking home in wet pants probably wasn't very pleasant anyway.
She seems to have the hang of it now. The only thing is being diaper free at night. It's a little scary for me. I don't want her to have an accident in the middle of the night and then have to change her and the sheets. By the time I'm done with that she'd be wide awake. I have to find a bed wetting pad or something. I'm going to search for that now.
So I searched and apparently GoodNights makes them. But I wanted something to go over the sheets not under. I guess I'll have to try it.
Below I've added pictures of the three things I've bought and have found very useful in this potty journey. I did forget to mention that, the toilet seat with the toddler and adult seats, was a little to big for my daughter at first. But the good thing was that her potty, featured below too, has a seat that comes out and fits over this toddler toilet seat. But now that she isn't afraid to hold herself on the actually toilet seat, she sits just fine. She sometimes likes to dip her little butt, but I tell her to stop, "No, you're going to wet your butt if you go to low." She thinks its funny.
Good luck on your adventure into Potty Realm. Try anything you can and want; see what works best for your child.

Tell me about it! Are there certain shows that you have to change the channel? Is there a show that your kid won't watch, but wants that cartoons toys? Does your kid just love any cartoon that's on TV? If they love old, classic cartoons which ones do they ask to watch?Debhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15301608156191730119noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3224330148759970618.post-9559760702689248882012-05-31T14:11:00.001-04:002012-05-31T14:11:58.872-04:00Word to the WiseSometimes we have to cut the snacks to help create hunger so that our children will eat their dinner. Also it's great to take the kids out to the park or for a walk so that when they get home their tummies will be empty for lunch/dinner. If mom is cooking, dad can take the kids to the nearest park or for a walk or vise versa. If you are alone, then have your ingredients prepared and the pots and pans ready so your not rushing later. Take your child(ren) outside and get yourself a coffee and walk them to the playground. Sit and relax or play a little and come back when you feel it's time and so on. Works for me :)Debhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15301608156191730119noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3224330148759970618.post-56546154320186498192011-11-26T11:24:00.001-05:002011-11-26T11:25:08.336-05:00PlaygroundsOh man. Today is such a beautiful to go outside! It's the end of November and it's feels like the middle of September. I love global warming! Hahaha no I'm just kidding.
There's this app for iPhone called "Playgrounds" from Parents.com and Kaboom. It's pretty awesome! The only thing that's not so awesome is that I don't know anyone who also had it.
You can find local parks and make play dates.Debhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15301608156191730119noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3224330148759970618.post-72523693944858960222011-11-21T22:20:00.001-05:002011-11-21T22:28:00.458-05:00Switched, but surprisingly easy..Hey, it's been a while and I'm so tired! I want to lay in bed and knock out! Anyway I totally forgot to inform you that I switched from bottle to sippy cup for my daughter's milk. So it's official, no more baby bottles. Wow, I'm kind of upset that she can't stay a baby forever.
Can you believe I cried the other day thinking that the day that she is a teen and says ugh I hate my mom is coming soon! I'm terrified! I don't want her to hate me, but it's the stupid cycle of life isn't it? Moms or whoever is the one constantly takin care of a child is super person. You give and give, and sacrifice so in the end your kid can despise you. :(
Anyway let me get back to the original topic of this post.
So it went smoothly. My daughter hasn't asked for the bottle or complained so that was easy, unlike the rest of the things in parenting. Well at least I do. I went to toysrus.com and made a wish list for my daughter. (By the way, I just had a Roasted tomato and mozzarella panini from Starbucks and it was SUPER delicious! Along with that, a Gingerbread latte. Plus I'm listening to Christmas music and having some alone time while my little gingerbread naps). Just wanted to share the little bit of joy bestowed on me on this lovely Saturday afternoon. So as I was saying, I made the wish list in hopes of adding it to Christmas cards I planned on sending out. I don't know when that's going to happen, because we just spend too much money on our Christmas & Birthday gift; my husband and I. We got iPhones, not the new one (4s) because that's way too expensive.
Moving on, lol, I added to the wish list toys I know my daughter wants. It also helps that when I was a kid my dad spoiled me with lots of toys :) He was pretty strict with everything else. So with that being said, I know about cool toys. Now, let's keep in mind that my daughter has a nice variety of toys now so if I don't mention it, she probably has it lol.
I had a shopping cart on her list, but I took it out because I saw one at Walmart for $10!!! Amazing! So here's what's left:
Crayola Color Wonder Makers and Coloring Pad
Crayola Color Wonder Fingerpaints and Paper
So far that's it. If you got any ideas please let me know :) Debhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15301608156191730119noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3224330148759970618.post-44423057975370051112011-11-10T08:26:00.001-05:002011-11-10T08:26:50.017-05:00Kids Can Have An Anxiety Disorder?Hello there!
I haven't been here in a hot minute. lol I'm trying to be current with my vocabulary. Actually I wanted to know if there was a list of the acronyms young people use nowadays. I used to be young :( I don't remember getting too old to use "tubular" language. haha. Anyway, I read this article in Parents Magazine about shy kids. Which is so funny, because I used to work with children, before having one of my own. There was a little girl who never spoke and played by herself or with one other girl. The moment she actually spoke I began clapping and saying, "Good job; using your words!" I was so excited I told her mom that she used her words to express her feelings, and her mom said, "Oh yeah, she's a bladder mouth at home. She's always talking." I just thought to myself that maybe she's just not comfortable with me or the amount of students in the room. Well according to this article she could have a socializing problem.
So if you want to read the article its in the November 2011 issue of Parents on page 38. I'm not sure, but maybe you can find it on their website. Now why am I writing about this? You might have a child who's like this and never knew it might be an issue. I, on the other hand, have a child who socializes with all whether it's nicely or evilly. lol!
The proper name for this anxiety disorder is Selective Mutism (SM). It affects "1 in 140 early-school-age kids." Don't worry! It's not like you can't do anything about it, you can! If you don't do anything about it, it might "lead to broader social anxiety." The Child Mind Institute in NYC recommends that you help your kid by practicing a few things that might will help in this "freeze-up" situation. An example they gave in the article was this: If you plan on going out to the ice-cream store, for example, you might want to practice what you want your child to say. Rehearse asking for vanilla on a cone with sprinkles. Then do it a few more times before going to the ice-cream shoppe. After she completed the task, tell her she's a big girl for speaking up and for using her words, and that is wasn't so scary to ask for what she wanted. If you want more information on this check out childmind.orgDebhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15301608156191730119noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3224330148759970618.post-38657004605822227852011-11-03T13:52:00.000-04:002011-11-03T13:52:25.393-04:00The Battle of Teeth BrushingHey ladies! (and gentlemen, for those of you who aren't ladies lol) I just wanted to let you know what I recently did to help me with the Battle of Teeth Brushing. I read somewhere (forgot where, of course what's new), that buying a Spinbrush and having your child pick their own toothbrush would help with The Battle. It didn't work! No I'm just kidding lol. Of course, it worked! I had a hard time looking for one that my daughter would like, but nonetheless I found my helping buddy!
I went to Pathmark and they were having a sale on some Spinbrushes, plus I had a coupon for Arm & Hammer Spinbrush for kids from last Sunday's newspaper. :) Score!!! You know how happy I was. I'm shopping, I'm saving, and it's going to make life easier.
They had mostly boy themed toothbrushes, and the girl's themed were Princess Cinderella, Dora and something else (again I forgot). I didn't pick the Princess (even though her plates are of the Disney Princesses) because she doesn't know who that is, and I didn't pick Dora, because she's a stranger too (we can't afford cable so she hasn't seen them). I found a dolphin one and I was going to take that one. But then, I found...There's two, there's four, there's six, there's eight...Thomas the tank engine. My girl likes that show and especially loves the theme song. So when I showed that one to her, she immediately let go of dolphin brush and played with Thomas the toothbrush!
This morning the battle was won, by Mom the smart lady who never gives up lol. She brushed her teeth with the Spinbrush, with my help of course and that was that!
So I moved my changing table right in front of the window in my daughters room. Boy does that help a lot! As I'm sure your baby does, she hates getting her diaper changed. Again, I had to find a way for her to calm down so I could change her. I keep the thermometer and tube of teething gel close by so she can play with that. I don't know why she likes both of those things, but hey I don't question if it's in my benefit. lol! By the way, if you're looking for something to entertain your kid while you change his/her diaper, make sure the object (or toy) you pick is only for diaper time or else they'll get tired of it.
Back to the position of the changing table. After bath-time I get my little girl ready fairly easy, even hough she fusses sometimes about getting her clothes on. She stares out the window while I put her clothes on, clean her ears, comb her hair etc. I'll ask her to look for a dog outside, because she likes them, or I say "Is the baby outside?" or she'll simply say "Vrrooom" while she watches trucks pass by.
Location for the changing table was important, because it helped me out with one of the many hectic parts of the day/night.
Oh and for those of you who care, I'm enjoying some hot chocolate... Yeah, no coffee. I know, what a surprise lol.Debhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15301608156191730119noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3224330148759970618.post-56245598035080717852011-11-01T09:21:00.001-04:002011-11-01T09:21:37.618-04:00Parenting TipsParentingCounts.org has these cheesy commercials, but they're so true and I love them for that. Also at the end of the commercial there's a baby sitting and my daughter loves that. Every time she sees him she says "bebe" meaning baby in Portuguese (and a lot of Latin languages for that matter). When I first saw these commercials it actually gave me a lot of the parenting tips I use in my life. So Thank You parentingcounts.org for helping me out. Some things seem obvious, but for a first-time parent who's bombarded with how to do things, it's a big help!

Debhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15301608156191730119noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-3224330148759970618.post-80329314332807647182011-10-31T14:29:00.000-04:002011-10-31T14:29:46.329-04:00Help with left-over candy

Happy Halloween, all!

It's a day full of candy, for those of you who are going Trick-or-Treating. After you're probably left with a lot of can candy and don't know what to do with it. If you're like me you can probably save it in the fridge or basket and have your husband eat it lol. So I was reading this email and it had an idea for these extra sweets.

An Advent calendar from Alphamom.com

As a special dessert after having lunch all together (as a family).

Use it to fill a Christmas stockings.

Keep it in your purse when you need to quiet your kid lol ssshhh.

Put it in your baking recipes.

Chopped for toppings on ice cream or on top of whipped cream with strawberries!

How about this one I saw on parenting.com: add it into some vodka and let it soak for a chocolate flavored cocktail. (I don't know if it's good, so let me know if you try).

Save it for guests

Maybe if you're kid's birthday is coming up, you can save it for goodie bags :) hey you have to save in times like these lol.

These are some things you can do with your Halloween candy. Have your little one help you out, so they can feel like a big kid. They can help make the calendar, they can fill a stocking, sprinkle on a cake or frosting, or even hand some out to your guests.

All of the mess, screaming, and crying, oh and of course pickiness, of the day seem to fade away when she falls asleep. It usually starts with a bottle of warm milk and we lay on the couch. I caress her hair or give her a little foot massage and she's off to dreamland (if she's not fussy). I can't help but let her sleep there next to me. I don't want to go put her in her bed. It just feels like, I don't know how to explain it. Is it a feeling of pure love, pure happiness, safety, or just a great feeling of overall accomplishment? Accomplishment in the sense that the day was conquered, and in the end everything's good, or "Great success! I'm a good mom." Maybe it's all of those feelings put together, that's why it's hard to explain. But all I know is that I'm so full of joy when my princess diva is sleeping in my arms. :) Just wanted to end the night with this post. Thanks for listening :)Debhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/15301608156191730119noreply@blogger.com0
